Our Neurological Testing: EMG, EEG, and Sleep Studies

We often perform specialized tests to make an accurate diagnosis of neurological diseases and problems. We offer these tests in our Conroe and Woodlands offices.

Electromyography (EMG)

Electromyography is a good way to evaluate muscles and the nerve cells that control them (called “motor neurons”).

We use EMGs to determine the cause of problems like tingling, numbness, and muscle pain or weakness. EMGs are also useful for diagnosing conditions such as muscular dystrophy, carpal tunnel, and peripheral neuropathies.

Many times, EMG are performed using electrodes taped to your skin. Sometimes, needle electrodes may be placed in your muscles.

Electroencephalograms (EEG)

An electroencephalogram is a safe, painless procedure that uses small electrodes attached to your scalp to measure your brain’s electrical activity.

EEGs are one of the most important tests for diagnosing epilepsy.
We also use electroencephalograms to evaluate and manage seizures, strokes, memory problems, dementia, head injuries, and other conditions.

Sleep Studies

To identify the cause of sleep disorders, we frequently use polysomnography or a “sleep study”.

This test records your brain waves, heart rate, breathing, eye and leg movements, and the amount of oxygen in your blood.

Sleep studies will be performed at a local sleep center in Conroe or The Woodlands and require an overnight stay. The test is conducted in a private room where you can sleep in your normal nightwear. The environment is quiet and soothing. We will tape comfortable electrodes to your body for testing.

Sleep studies help us diagnose problems such as insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, and fibromyalgia.
